Mides Elite Academy Student Attendance Policy

At Mides Elite Academy, we recognize that consistent attendance and punctuality are critical to academic success and personal development. This policy sets out the expectations, procedures, and consequences related to attendance and punctuality for all students aged 11-16.


Attendance Expectations

  1. Daily Attendance

    • Students are expected to attend school every day during term time.

    • The school day begins promptly at 8:00, and students must be present in their designated classes by this time.

  2. Authorized Absences

    • Absences will be authorized for valid reasons, such as:

      • Illness (with notification from a parent/guardian).

      • Medical or dental appointments (preferably scheduled outside school hours).

      • Religious observances.

      • Exceptional circumstances pre-approved by the school.

  3. Unauthorized Absences

    • Unauthorized absences include, but are not limited to:

      • Absences without parental notification or school approval.

      • Truancy.

      • Holidays during term time without prior authorization.


Punctuality

  1. Late Arrival

    • Students are expected to arrive on time for school and each lesson.

    • Lateness will be tracked weekly.

  2. Consequences for Lateness

    • Three Lates in a Week:

      • Students who are late three times in a week will receive a detention.


Attendance Monitoring and Consequences

  1. Unauthorized Absences

    • Students who are absent without authorization twice in a week will face the following consequences:

      • Detention on the Following Monday:

        • The detention will last from the first lesson through the end of the school day.

        • Students will be escorted to a designated location and monitored throughout the day to complete academic work and reflect on the importance of regular attendance.


Attendance Monitoring Procedures

  1. Daily Monitoring

    • Attendance will be recorded during morning registration and at the start of every lesson.

    • Parents/guardians will be contacted immediately if a student is absent without prior notification.

  2. Weekly Review

    • Attendance and punctuality records will be reviewed weekly to identify students with persistent issues.

  3. Escalation of Concerns

    • Persistent lateness or absences will trigger further action, including parent/guardian meetings, the development of an attendance improvement plan, or referral to local education authorities.


Parental and Student Responsibilities

  1. Parents/Guardians

    • Notify the school by 8:30 AM on the day of an absence.

    • Ensure students arrive at school on time, ready for learning.

    • Work with the school to address any attendance or punctuality concerns.

  2. Students

    • Take responsibility for attending school every day and arriving on time.

    • Follow the school's procedures for signing in if late or signing out if leaving early with authorization.


School Support and Communication

  1. Support for Attendance Improvement

    • Students with attendance or punctuality issues may be referred to the school counselor, receive additional academic support, or be connected to external services.

  2. Recognition of Good Attendance

    • Incentives and rewards will be given to students who consistently demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.

  3. Parental Communication

    • The school will maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding attendance and punctuality.


Policy Enforcement

  • This policy will be consistently enforced to ensure a disciplined and productive learning environment.

  • Mides Elite Academy reserves the right to amend or review this policy as necessary to meet the needs of the school community.
